The conference is organized in collaboration with the Jean Monnet Chair of the Department of International and European Studies at the University of Macedonia “EU Law, Values and Digital Citizenship” and the Alumni Association of the Inter-institutional Master’s Program “Law and Informatics”. Its primary aims are fostering dialogue, and promoting an interdisciplinary understanding of the implementation of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum within the framework of the European Union. Particular emphasis will be placed on the resilience of asylum systems, the management of migratory pressures, and the protection of fundamental human rights. Through this initiative, the conference aspires to contribute meaningfully to the broader public discourse on migration governance and the European Union’s solidarity mechanisms. More specifically, the conference aims to present and critically examine the framework of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, including border asylum procedures, screening mechanisms, and return procedures. In parallel, particular attention will be given to the humanitarian dimension of migration governance, with emphasis on the safeguarding of human dignity, the principle of non-refoulement, and the compatibility of migration policies with international law, the 1951 Refugee Convention, and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
The conference is addressed to students, academics and researchers, members of relevant NGOs, educators of all levels, educational institutions, pupils, representatives of local government authorities (regions and municipalities), active citizens, and members of civil society.
At the conference, the twelve interns of the UNESCO Chair “Intercultural Policy for an Active Citizenship and Solidarity” will present their research following the completion of a two-month training programme. In addition, the conference programme will feature lectures and presentations by ten distinguished academics, officials, and experts from the University of Macedonia, the University of Milan, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Democritus University of Thrace, the Hellenic Mediterranean University, the Hellenic Open University etc.
