Dr. Ioanna Papavassiliou-Alexiou
Dr. Ioanna Papavassiliou-Alexiou is an Assistant Professor at the University of Macedonia, Department for Educational & Social Policy, Thessaloniki, Greece. Her field of expertise is Career Guidance and Counseling. She teaches undergraduate and prostgraduate courses relevant to this field e.g. Career competences, Career guidance for the disabled, Guidance and Counseling techniques for vulnerable groups etc. She also teaches adult learners in relevant subjects in the framework of adult training courses. Her research interests focus in lifelong guidance, career management skills, career development of adults -especially of disabled and other vulnerable groups. She has participated in numerous international conferences whereas the results of her research have been published in various international and Greek scientific journals.
In the year 2013 Ms Papavassiliou has developed a project in cooperation with the University of Hamburg and the Unesco Institut for Lifelong Learning (Hamburg) on the topic «Education to work transitions in times of financial crisis: comparing Germany and Greece in European and international perspective».. The above project was funded by the German Institut for Academic Exchange (DAAD) and the University of Hamburg, as part of the Program Dialogue with Higher Education in Southern Europe. The 3 cooperating parts organised a scientific meeting (workshop) hosted at the Unesco Institut for Lifelong Learning on December 17-18, 2013. In the workshop participated 6 academics from Thessaloniki, 6 academics from Germany and 10 students from the University of Macedonia. After this fruitful exchange of ideas and experiences on the topic of transitions the University of Macedonia, represented by I. Papavassiliou, is currently working on a cooperation-agreement with the Unesco Institut for LLL, Hamburg.
